When I was thinking of dilemmas that I could help with on here, my mum suggested her own ongoing clothing dilemma of the difficulty of finding petite clothes.

here.
I have witnessed first hand her dilemma, something I fortunately don't share at 5'6, and know how frustrated she gets. With this in mind I set about searching on the internet for clothing shops and online sites that cater for the smaller, and shorter woman.
From my quick search, these are my top 5:
Florence and Fred at Tesco Petite
Asos Petite
Debenhams Petite Range
Miss Selfridge Petites
Dorothy Perkins Petite (Perfectly Proportioned)
As well as these well known shops I came across a specialised online shopping sites that I had never heard of before:
Petite Affair. This site was a little out of budget for me (and my mum) but they do have a large clearance section which has some affordable pieces on it that look great! I will definitely be getting my mum on there to have a look.
Finally, these are my top picks from the petite selections I have mentioned which I feel would suit my mum, but may be of interest to some of you other petite readers out there!
From Florence and Fred:
I love this colour for a dress and this is smart enough to wear to a meal or to work but is a light enough material to not get too hot as the weather warms up.
The trousers are perfect for work and versatile enough to be worn with a variety of different tops, making them a wardrobe staple.
This top is great for spring/summer as it is so light. It would look great teamed with a pair of shorts for casual wear or over the smart trousers above to wear to work or for a more formal occassion.
From Asos:
These flared jeans are gorgeous and would look great with either a casual t shirt or a smarter top as they are a versatile shade of denim. I am envious of shorter people being able to buy these jeans!
Something I have noticed a lot of recently is shorter people asking if maxi dresses can be worn if you are on the shorter side. Of course they can, but they need to be the right length as the majority of maxi dresses fit me perfectly and I stand between 5'6 and 5'7 in flats! I would suggest this maxi dress as it can be casual for during the day, but easily glammed up for night. It avoids being plain black with the cute ruffle detail on the bust, a very cute dress.
:
This Tea Dress is really summery and light. It skims over areas like the stomach and hips, making it very flattering, and the neckline is demure enough to wear at even formal events.
From Dorothy Perkins:
Another pair of smart trousers, these ones are flared and more tailored making them even smarter for work. I love them teamed with this blue cap sleeved top (below) as it makes such a great work outfit.
From Miss Selfridge:
This Maxi dress is a bit more intricate than the first. It is limited edition so if you like it, hurry to buy it!
From Petite Affair:
This skirt is another great work option, or could be worn to a meal. It is satin material which makes it more exciting than just another work skirt, and it looks like it would be very flattering too.
This is a great summery dress that could be worn to many different occassions, making it a versatile piece. It is a flattering style, skimming problem areas, and it can also be accessorised up or down and worn with either heels or sandals for different styles.
Happy Shopping to all my petite readers!
Being 5'2 and a size 4/6 I obviously fall into the petite bracket myself. I'd recommend Topshop and Miss Selfridge too, as both do 4s in their petites (as far as I know MS was the first high street store to do so). It's annoying that petite ranges are always much reduced in terms of quantity from the normal range - as the selection above proves. Us shorties still want to wear cool things!
